The Green Center is a non-profit educational institute that evolved from the world-renowned New Alchemy Institute. These are the people that invented “sustainability” as a science and lifestyle practice.
When New Alchemy closed in 1991, some of its former members kept the torch lit by maintaining an archive of the institute’s research, journals, and other publications as The Green Center. Some of these went on a basic website, which attracted impressive traffic, despite its low-tech look.
In 2015, The Green Center got a grant to update its website. Using the WordPress Creative theme, we organized the research into broad portfolios, allowing users to explore by subject or keyword search. Featuring slideshows and an extensive range of New Alchemy publications, the result is a user-friendly site that encourages exploration and learning!
